18 groups of geologists initiate study of landslide risk 

KATHMANDU: The 18 groups mobilized by the Department of Mines and Geology at six most quake-hit districts have initiated work from Friday to carry out study about the risk of landslides after the earthquake.

Director General of the Department, Sarbajit Prasad Mahato, said that the groups were mobilized to carry out study on different issues including whether or not the areas are at risk of dry landslide after the quake and where the risk settlements should be shifted.

He said four groups are mobilized in Sindhupalchowk and Gorkha districts each, three in Dolakha and Dhading each and two in Nuwakot and Rasuwa each for the study.

A deadline has been given to the groups to submit the reports after completing the study within three days.

The groups comprise geologists of different organisations including ICIMOD, Nepal Geological Society, among others.

The government has formed a taskforce under the leadership of Department comprising representatives of the Home Ministry, Department of Survey, Department of Geology, ICIMOD, Water-borne Disaster Control Department, among others to carry out works regarding landslide. RSS
