KATHMANDU: After three months’ coordinated effort, Nepal Police finally arrested 122 Chinese nationals from different parts of Kathmandu Valley on the charge of their involvement in illegal activities on Monday.
Some of them were running illegal business living in Kathmandu by institutionally taking rooms in rent. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hobindra Bogati shared, “It is not a surprise arrest, but a coordinated plan since three months.”
They were held from Budhanilakantha, Bansbari and Manamaiju area. No foreign national living in tourist visa can work institutionally by taking a house in rent. The Chinese nationals were involved in such activities for long, he added. However, it is the first case such large number of Chinese nationals were held at once.
Earlier, seven Chinese were held for bank ATM hacking.
The locals had given information about finding their activities suspicious. The Police had also made coordination with the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu to ascertain the wrongdoers.

“All of them are involved the wrongdoing. However, thorough investigation will reveal their additional status,” he added. As the police said, the Chinese nationals were however not conducting harm in Nepal.
Whatever they are doing, it’s all online. Further investigation will reveal whether they are linked to the past bank ATM hacking, according to Senior Superintendent of Police, Sahakul Thapa, of Metropolitan Crime Control Division.
With the permission from Kathmandu District Court, they have been kept in detention for five more days, added Bogati. Some of them had no visa as well.
