120 primary health centres to have Rs 150 million worth of medical equipment

KATHMANDU: The government has purchased medical equipments worth Rs 150 million meant for the total 120 primary health centres across the country.

The equipments have already been imported, and the centres entitled to the 43 types of equipments have been summoned to receive the consignment, said Dr Bhim Singh Tinkari, Director of the Logistics Management Division of the Ministry of Health.
The equipments will be distributed by assessing the need of a health centre, he added.
It is believed that the effort to equip rural health centres with necessary medical equipments may help doctors, who otherwise are reluctant to go to rural areas for service reasoning lack of essential medical equipments.
The government requires each health centre to have a MBBS doctor.
“The effort also targets the insurance programme launched by the government. It is necessary to make local people feel the presence of medical service at local level,” Tinkari added.
The purchased equipments include special beds for delivery, X-ray machines, medical refrigerators, delivery equipment and blood pressure measuring equipment- sphygmomanometers- among others. RSS
