12 persons held for alleged involvement on illegal kidney transplantation

A kidney was transplanted into a patient by establishing fake family relations between the receiver and donor.

By Narayan Dhungana, KATHMANDU:- Twelve individuals including doctors, officials and an elected representative of a local level were arrested on Sunday for their alleged involvement in illegal kidney transplantation.
Spokesperson of the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police Govinda Thapa said that nine individuals from Lalitpur and three others were arrested from Chitwan district in this connection.
According to Thapa, a kidney was transplanted into a patient by establishing fake family relations between the receiver and donor.
A patient of Lalitpur district had undergone kidney transplantation on 10 June 2019 at Chitwan-based College of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital known as Old Medical College.
According to police, the donor had complained that he was cheated and lured to donate the kidney despite having genuine relationship with receiver. Police added that Lalitpur Metropolitan City -3 Chairman Shree Gopal Maharjan had authenticated the fake relation documents between the receiver and donor.
Ward Chairman, officials of district administration office Chitwan, legal advisor to the Hospital, doctors at the hospital among others were arrested in this connection after the thorough investigations.
All the arrested are presented before the Lalitpur District Court for further actions. RSS
