12 Bodies are found in Achham: Search for 5 bodies

By N24 STAFF WRITER, ACHHAM:- The bodies of 12 of the 17 people who went missing due to the flood in Kailash Khola of Achham last night have been found. Chief District Officer of Achham, Gokarna Prasad Upadhyaya, said that the bodies of the locals were found at a distance of at least two hours.

He said, “Seventeen people, including 30 shops in Sainibazar, have been swept away. The search team has found the bodies far away. The search is still going on due to heavy floods in the river.”

A Nepal Army AI-17 helicopter has been mobilized to search for the flood victims, said Homnath Dawadi, Bahinipati of Shree No. 5 Bahini Adda Dipayal Rajpur. According to the District Police Office, Achham, a team including Prajia Upadhyaya of Achham, Ganapati Lochan Karki of Bhavani Box and DSP Yogendra Singh Thapa of the District Police Office have been deployed in the search.

A total of 12 bodies have been found in Darna of Bannigadhi Jayagarh Gaonpalika-6 and 6 in Lamatana and Seri of Mangalsen Municipality-3, said Mukesh Kumar Singh, Acting Chief of Far-Western Provincial Police Office, Dipayal.

According to him, the bodies have not been identified yet as there are no clothes and nothing to identify them. According to the District Police Office, Achham, the river flooded due to heavy rains last night and swept away the locals sleeping in their shops.

A team of Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, people’s representatives, and locals have been deployed since this morning to search for the missing persons, said Ramaroshan Village Chairman Jhankar Bahadur Saud. He said, “A team has been deployed since this morning to search for those who went missing due to the floods. There has been a huge loss of life and property. We are searching for them.”
